Welcome to St Joseph's & Holy Family Catholic Churches in Sale
Children's Liturgy
The St Joseph’s children’s liturgy group was founded almost 30 years ago and is run by a handful of volunteers of various backgrounds. We are a very friendly group with an average of 40-50 children attending each service.
At the beginning of the 11am family mass every Sunday the children are invited to leave the church during the liturgy of the word and gather elsewhere to celebrate a separate liturgy of the word which is more appropriate to their level of understanding. This includes praying together in words and song, hearing an appropriately worded version of the day’s Gospel and discussing this to help the children to understand the message and meanings of the reading. We return to the church at the end of the liturgy of the word as part of the offertory procession to celebrate the rest of the mass together.
The children’s liturgy team also organise a celebration on the feast of Christ the king. This includes Christmas craft activities and lunch together after the 11am mass. This is a wonderful celebration and a great chance for people to socialise.
On Good Friday the children of the parish perform the stations of the cross in a beautiful service in the church. All children are welcome to be a part of the performance and they work very hard and produce a stunning and emotional performance. This is followed by lunch and Easter craft activities for everyone.
All children are welcome at the children’s liturgy, and we love to see new faces.
We also always welcome new volunteers, no matter how much time you can offer. There is no need to worry about experience as we can give all the help you would need.
